In his book "Learned Optimism," Dr. Martin Seligman points out how the ways we learn to explain adversity affect our behavior. The explanatory style we adopt determines the extent to which we are optimists or pessimists. In this dynamic workshop, participants answer a series of questions which give insight into their explanatory styles and levels of optimism. Participants also learn to recognize how a stress-producing and pessimistic belief system may contribute to burnout through application of the ABCs of stress producing beliefs. Concrete and practical guidance is given to improve the level of optimism, resulting in reduction of stress.
BENEFITS
Participants will develop an understanding of the origins of optimistic and pessimistic
tendencies. They will also be provided with tools to recognize how their reactions
to situations are optimistic or pessimistic, and techniques on how to change those
reactions and, therefore, their explanatory style. A must for workplaces which are
caught in the paralysis of pessimism.
